Learning Groups

Every student is randomly assigned to a Learning Group of four people. The purpose of this learning group is yours to define: you may use it as a study group, a sounding board, a social club, a field trip travel crew, a group chat, or whatever you’d like.
You will get credit for interacting with your learning group, including bonus points for meeting up in person.
Why are we doing this?
First, we want you to have additional people–beyond your professor and your TA–who can give you feedback, advice, or simple reminders about deadlines and syllabus material.
Second, it can be hard to meet new people in the classroom in an era when students are so busy… and when each of us has a screen of some sort to look at during the break.
Third, random groupings mean you might meet someone you wouldn’t have met any other way. One of the best parts of college is the surprise of getting to know people who don’t necessarily share your background, interests, tastes, or aspirations. Try it!
We hope that your group gives you the chance to connect both on- and off-line. Even if you choose not to socialize very much with your group, it can be very valuable to your class experience to just small ways to connect with one another, such as checking in, sending each other reminders, asking questions like, “what are you doing for your memory palace project?” and that kind of thing.
